SUBJECT: BBC CONGRATULATES MSES. PRISCILLAH MABELANE, TAELO MOJAPELO AND NOSIPHO DAMASANE ON THER RESPECTIVE APPOINTMENTS
The Black Business Council (BBC) would like to take this opportunity and congratulate Mses. Priscillah Mabelane, Taelo Mojapelo and Nosipho Damasane on their respective appointments.
Ms Priscillah Mabelane, a trailblazer, has been appointed as Executive Vice President: Energy Business at Sasol. In August 2017, she was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of BP Southern Africa, making her the first female to hold such a position in the country. She previously served as Retail Operations Director for BP UK retail business. She holds a BCom (Hons) from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal and she is a Chartered Accountant.
Ms Taelo Mojapelo has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of BP Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd (BPSA). Taelo joined BPSA in April as head of commercial optimization and supply for Southern Africa. She has a wealth of commercial and operational experience, joining BPSA from Mondelez where she held the position of supply chain director. Ms Mojapelo holds a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Chemical Technology from the University of Natal, a Masters degree in Environmental Engineering from Cambridge University and an MBA from the Gordon Institute of Business Science.
Ms Nosipho Damasane has been appointed to the position of Chief Executive of PRASA Rail. Prior to joining PRASA, Ms Damasane has been CEO of the Bombela Operating Company, the operator of Gautrain. Ms Damasane holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting obtained from Walter Sisulu University; a Senior Executive Programme obtained from London Business School and a Certificate in Management of State-Owned Entities obtained from University of Singapore. Ms Damasane has 22 years’ experience in logistics, port and rail cargo, passenger operations, infrastructure development and transport policy development.
The BBC would like to particularly commend BPSA for continuously recognising that women are capable of becoming successful CEOs.
These appointments should serve as an encouragement to other public and private sector companies to give women positions of responsibilities with profit and loss as well as operational mandates. The BBC is confident that their appointments will inspire other women and send a strong message that black women can also be CEOs of major companies in the South African economy.
